About

Dr Razvan Stoita

Dr Razvan Stoita is a highly experienced orthopaedic hip and knee surgeon with specific interest in:

  • minimally  invasive direct anterior hip replacement,

  • robotic and computerised total and partial knee replacement,

  • revision hip and knee replacement

  • anatomic ACL reconstruction using autograft (hamstring, quadriceps and patella tendon) and fresh frozen allograft

  • meniscal and cartilage arthroscopic surgery

  • limb reconstruction surgery

    • deformity correction,

    • Knee realignment

    • limb lengthening

Dr Stoita trained as an orthopaedic surgeon on the Sydney Northside Training Scheme of the Australian Orthopaedic Association. He subsequently travelled to London, UK, Hamburg, Germany and Annecy, France where, under the guidance of some of the world’s best surgeons, he completed advanced postgraduate fellowships in complex hip and knee surgery focusing on complex hip and knee replacement, revision surgery and sports knee surgery.

Upon returning to Sydney, Dr Stoita established an orthopaedic practice focused primarily on hip and knee surgery. Having an open mind and keeping abreast with the latest techniques and developments in in hip and knee surgery he has embraced the use of new and modern technology in his practice. Dr Stoita was the first surgeon in NSW to perform a robotic total knee replacement using the NAVIO system. Currently, Dr Stoita continues to perform computerised and robotic total and partial knee replacements using the NAVIO and ROSA robotic systems. These techniques assist him in providing a bespoke, individualised treatment to every patient ensuring best possible outcomes. Dr Stoita also has extensive experience and expertise in hip replacement surgery. He is one of the few surgeons who has been trained and routinely performs hip replacement surgery using both the minimally invasive direct anterior approach and the posterior approach. He uses the direct anterior approach in most patients as, in his view, this provides best early recovery and functional restoration. Through the use of advanced computerised surgical planning and meticulous surgical technique he is able to maximise clinical and functional patient outcomes. Another area of clinical interest and expertise involves knee sports injuries and particularly ACL reconstructions. Dr Stoita is one of the first surgeons to routinely use fresh frozen, non-irradiated cadaveric tissue in ACL reconstruction surgery. The use of this tissue significantly decreases the surgical morbidity compared with the use of hamstring, patella or quadriceps tendon autograft. Dr Stoita uses a technique that ensure anatomic ACL reconstruction which maximises athletes’ performance on return to competitive sports.  The type of graft to be used is decided after a thorough history, clinical examination and functional requirements. There are a large number patients for whom an autograft tendon is the best choice and this is decided on an individual basis.

Dr Stoita is one of the founding members of the Limb Reconstruction Centre at Macquarie University Hospital. His work at the Limb Reconstruction Centre involves surgery on patients with extremely complex and difficult orthopaedic conditions such as bone and joint infections, complex hip and knee deformities, leg length discrepancy, failed hip and knee replacements, complex multi ligamentous knee injuries.

Dr. Razvan Stoita has a very close collaboration with the anaesthetists, your local practitioner and the physiotherapists to ensure you regain your function in the shortest possible time.

Dr. Razvan Stoita performs the following surgical procedures:

  • Minimally Invasive Direct Anterior Hip Replacement Surgery, Posterior Approach Hip Replacement

  • Revision Hip Replacement Surgery using a Direct Anterior or a Posterior Approach

  • Total and Partial Knee Replacement Surgery using computerised and robotic surgery
